My thoughts: Sri Lankan Cricket, micromax Cup.. ....
This may not be a ideal blog post to starts with my blog but my attraction to the game of cricket forced me to write the first blog post about cricket. :D
Yesterday Sri Lankan cricket team won the micromax cup with some fabulous team work and individual efforts( of course with some luck). This win will surely affect the confidence in the team and will be a great footstep to the upcoming and the most crucial Australian tour which include 3 one day matches.
On my point of view the opening partnership between dilshan and mahela was the key point of the match. it lead others like sangakkara to free his arms and play his natural game without any pressure. This opening partnership may allow the team selectors to have a second look at the composition of the team. Mahela's record as an opening batsman in the one day games were brilliant . He scored 2 centuries in 6 matches which he opened the batting with as average of around 60. but sending Mahela as an opening batsman will be a big risk because if he gets out quickly the middle order will struggle to gain momentum and the consistency. As far as I concern our middle order combination is not the ideal combination if are targeting the world cup 2011. lack of consistency is a huge factor. Most of the time the team depends on our top order. And also this will question the place of the upul tharanga who is naturally an opening batsman. But his weakness of edging when facing outside off bowls which are out-swinging may be a one factor that lead the selectors to send him one down. but didn't work at many times. tharanga's lack of confident when facing the spinners is another factor that tells us that he is not a middle order batsman. Personally I wont like to see chamara silva in the middle order. His lack of strokes in the offside is a big disadvantage. he always try to play down the leg side area specially the continuous sweep shots to the spinners. He will be a easy victim of a good bowling attack. Kapugedara's reputation as a brilliant fielder and the only big hitter in the Sri Lankan team will give him some more marks than the other middle order players( Actually in my view ,the way Sewag played yesterday night could easily destroy the Sri Lankan's dream about the cup.)
Mahela, Dilshan, Sangakkara, Malinga, Kulasekara, Mathews, Tharanga , Murali will surely in the team which will play in the worldcup. chandimal, kapugedara, chamara silva, randiv, samaraweera, ajantha mendis, jeewan mendis, thisara perera are all capable players. but only 3 vacancies are there in the team !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
